Season Finale of Battlestar Galactica

Well, it's been awhile since I've blogged anything. I'm goingto see about changing that, but I'm not going to make any promises. I finally took the time to finish off season 3 Battlestar Galactica. (Come on, it's been a year since the season finale now. On that note, when is season 4 coming out!!) All I've got to say is that it was freakin' awesome! I don't want to ruin it for anyone else who is a fan of the show and just so happen hasn't seen the episode but it a lot of answers were questioned in this episode and just the music made a person's blood pump. It started off as some mixture of sometype of Indian Music and rock. Something I would not once consider as working but the maker's of this show pulled it off. Mondo Kudo's for you my favorite show producer's. I'm almost glad that it's taken me this long to get to the season finale or I would be going crazy waiting this long without any new content to work with. (not counting the straight to DVD movie Razor)

So yeah, basically just wanted to say that yeah, I'm alive. I'm working hard and trying not play as hard. I'm still working on that story. It's been fleshing out more and the little bit that I put on here has been taken out and just recently decided on rewriting it into what I'm writing. (Wow, that sounded cryptic, didn't it?) So, until next time! Peace!

Playing with poetry

Well, I decided to play with a little bit of poetry and going over different types of formats. This is a rather short ballad poem I made while playing around. Not the highest quality, but it's something.

What is Happiness?

What is happiness?

Is happiness when one reaches ones goals

Is happiness when one lives their life to the fullest without worries

Or is it when one gets that sensuous kiss from the lovely Nicole

So what is happiness?

Is happiness when one lives within another delusion

Is happiness when one is surrounded by friends

Or is happiness when one lives in seclusion

As to what is happiness

I shall never know

So I shall live each day

With the question below

What is happiness?

I apoligize...

Well, I must say that I feel really bad for still not finishing the first chapter in a form that I feel is presentable. I became to distracted with my three day weekend that writing was the last thing on my mind. I was playing too much Heavenly Sword and Lair on the Sony Playstation 3.
But, as I feel guilty for saying that I'll have it done in a presentable form by now I will at least post an excerpt from the first chapter. Note, that this is still in rough draft form.

Wayne Gibson sat at his desk, gazing hypnotically at the steady flow of information that scrolled down the monitor. This is where he started each of his mornings, seeing what news there was in the Dome. Of course it was almost always the same, just a whole bunch of people whining over one thing or another. Why did it seemed that all people could do was whine and complain? Even if they didn’t have the government they wanted, they still were still surviving. They were surviving thanks to himself and his family. If it wasn’t for a small resistance cell called The Children of Liberty trying to impose democracy on the people there wouldn’t have to be any curfew at night, no police patrolling “their” streets. Democracy imposed in such a bubble of humanity where the daily lives of the people must be micromanaged for their own survival would only lead to one thing…. Disaster. in such a fragile shell of humanity where everything must be micromanaged would only lead to one thing…. Disaster.

With a sigh of depression, President Gibson stood up from behind his desk and paced over to the wall window to see a city enshrouded by darkness, the only light emanating from the arcs of blue electricity coming down a cable that rose up to the top of the dome and then to heavens above. It was the Space Needle, named after a skyscraper with the same name. The Space needle was the legacy of his family's company, the Gibson-______ Co. The Space Elevator had been designed by his great grandfather, Jax Gibson. Or more commonly known these days as “The Great Savior.”

So yeah, I know that it's only a very small piece to work with, but any input or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hey, please read this!

First thing I'd like to say that this isn't my official blog of the week, that shall be sometime this weekend. I'm just posting that there is a VERY high chance that I'll have at least something posted this weekend on the story I'm writing. Please read and give me your opinions on it. Any opinion will do, the good, the bad, the ugly, hey you forgot a period. Any feedback what so ever will be much appreciated. All right, I need to head out to physical conditioning right now, so I'll talk to you all later.

Where's the Ghost?

Human Machine Interface

Another week has now gone by and it's now time for another blog. I didn't get too much accomplished on Zaren's World, but I did read an interesting article called "Your Outboard Brain Knows All" by Clive Thompson in Wired Magazine. I found it interesting as the article puts a different spin on sci-fi theory of a Ghost, a term that I am using in the story I'm writing. What's exactly is a ghost in sci-fi terms? A ghost is when an Artificial Intelligence is able to collect enough random data that eventually it will build the right random code to create something akin to the human soul.
This article takes this in a different direction on how we humans are becoming the Ghost of the machine as we choose to rely on technology more and more on such things as remembering cell phone numbers and street addresses, something that not too long ago we would have had to either memorize or write down. A quote from the author say "My point is that the cyborg future is here. Almost without noticing it, we've outsourced important peripheral brain functions to the silicon around us."
I have to say that I believe him to be right. I don't know how many times I've gotten a phone number a just stuck it in my cell phone and forgot about it. I still don't remember the numbers to probably three fourth's of the people in my cell phone. That includes my own bestfriend.
If you get a chance, check out the article in Wired Magazine, or if you'd like to see the authors other works, he's got a blog called Collision Works that you can check out.

EDIT (October 7th, 2007): I found the article online. Here's the web address: http://www.wired.com/techbiz/people/magazine/15-10/st_thompson

So many ideas and yet so little time.

Alright, after a month your aspiring author has finally found the time to post another blog. First things first, I must apologise for being late with the blog. I know I said that I would post weekly, but it been a busy month. This pass month I've had to deal with Residual Military Training, Lock Down, Inspections, parade practice, really hard tests, and being a backdrop for a television show called The Impossible Dinner. To say the least, this past month has been quite busy.
On that note though I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I have made progress on Zaren's World. About five pages written progress and about two or three chapters plotted. The bad news is that I'm obviously still not done with that first chapter and as things have been going lately I can't guarantee that I'll have it done this month either. Although, If the first chapter does get finished by some miracle this is the first place I'll make sure to have it posted. For you all to read along with a summary of the rest of the story.

On a different note I have somewhat of a survey to ask. What would you think of a zombie t.v. series kind of like Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later? I asked this question in my class and every single person agreed that it would be a bad idea on the basis that it would be the same thing over and over again. I disagree with this as I think the story could be quite deep if there was enough characterization and the progression of how they lived. I don't know about you, but I didn't want the movie Dawn of the Dead to ever end. I personally wanted to see further how they would live in this post apocalyptic world. So yeah, give me some insight. If things go well with this story, I may see about writing a script for a Zombie based T.V. series and maybe selling the idea off. We'll see. Until then, I should be posting next weekend. Hopefully.

A little about me...

All right, for those of you whom don't know me, the name is Spencer McMillan, age 20. I'm currently working in the field of avionics in the United States Air Force and I am going to be going to college here hopefully soon to see about getting a duel degree in electrical and software engineering. So yeah, your probably wondering why I would name this Zaren's World if this is really about me. Well, Zaren is a character in a story that I'm writing right now and hopefully the first one that I will publish. I'll hopefully post it up in about a week for those of you whom would like to read... But then again, I've said I'm going to finish this first chapter for almost a year now, but maybe with the knowledge that there might be somebody reading this that I'll be able to finish the chapter.
This story is a cyberpunk story (a subgenre of science-fiction) that takes place in the 25th century. I'm not going to go into much detail, but at it's core it's about a man who's lost his love and must travel into a world that he had long left to try and find her. I wish I could say more than that, but I've already tried explaining it once on here and felt that I was giving too much away, so I'm going to have to stay vague until next week. Well, see ya all later!
