But, as I feel guilty for saying that I'll have it done in a presentable form by now I will at least post an excerpt from the first chapter. Note, that this is still in rough draft form.
Wayne Gibson sat at his desk, gazing hypnotically at the steady flow of information that scrolled down the monitor. This is where he started each of his mornings, seeing what news there was in the Dome. Of course it was almost always the same, just a whole bunch of people whining over one thing or another. Why did it seemed that all people could do was whine and complain? Even if they didn’t have the government they wanted, they still were still surviving. They were surviving thanks to himself and his family. If it wasn’t for a small resistance cell called The Children of Liberty trying to impose democracy on the people there wouldn’t have to be any curfew at night, no police patrolling “their” streets. Democracy imposed in such a bubble of humanity where the daily lives of the people must be micromanaged for their own survival would only lead to one thing…. Disaster. in such a fragile shell of humanity where everything must be micromanaged would only lead to one thing…. Disaster.
With a sigh of depression, President Gibson stood up from behind his desk and paced over to the wall window to see a city enshrouded by darkness, the only light emanating from the arcs of blue electricity coming down a cable that rose up to the top of the dome and then to heavens above. It was the Space Needle, named after a skyscraper with the same name. The Space needle was the legacy of his family's company, the Gibson-______ Co. The Space Elevator had been designed by his great grandfather, Jax Gibson. Or more commonly known these days as “The Great Savior.”
So yeah, I know that it's only a very small piece to work with, but any input or thoughts would be much appreciated.
